Supporting our community

We are proud to share the scale of support we have delivered over the past year. Our work is a direct response to the increasing needs within our community, focused on providing essential aid with dignity and care.

The Numbers Behind Our Mission

The following table highlights the critical support provided over the last 12 months:

Emergency Food

Over 300 food bank referrals, ensuring no family goes hungry in a crisis.

Warmth & Energy

Approximately 65 fuel referrals, helping residents stay warm and safe.

School Success

Over 350 items of free/donated school uniforms and 27 full stationery sets were provided to local students, removing barriers to education.

Basic Essentials

Attended 100+ events and hubs providing free or low-cost toiletries, clothing, and small household items to many families.

Home & Dignity

Facilitated 3 white goods referrals and several referrals for larger furniture, alongside distributing 15 reusable sanitary packs.

Special Occasions & Joy

Provided 20+ Prom outfits and distributed seasonal joy through approx. 200 Christmas gifts, 40 sets of PJs/jumpers, and 200 Easter eggs.

Hospital Outreach

Extended our compassion by donating Christmas gifts to the Oncology Ward at UHS Southampton and the Snowdon Ward at Western Community Hospital.

This substantial work is only possible thanks to the volunteers who staff our events and the generous individuals and businesses who donate funds and essential items. We remain committed to growing this level of support in the year ahead.

Did you know your Doctors surgery offers more than just medical appointments?

Ever felt like what you really need isn’t a pill, but a plan? Or perhaps a connection to a community group, a bit of help with paperwork, or just someone to listen to what’s actually going on in your life?

That’s where a Social Prescriber comes in.

What is Social Prescribing?

Often, the things that make us feel unwell can’t be fixed by medicine alone. Issues like debt, isolation, or struggling to stay active can take a massive toll on our mental and physical health.

Social Prescribers are dedicated professionals who take the time to focus on "what matters to you" rather than "what is the matter with you." They help you find local services and support to get your life back on track.

How Can They Help?

They are like a friendly bridge to your community. They can connect you with:

  • Mental Health Support: Including local talk groups or creative outlets.

  • Practical Help: Guidance on housing, benefits, or debt management.

  • Social Connection: Lunch clubs, gardening groups, or hobby circles to combat loneliness.

  • Healthy Living: Finding exercise classes that aren't intimidating.

🙋 Moving Forward: How to Refer Yourself

You don’t always need to wait for a GP to suggest it. If you feel like you’re struggling with the "non-medical" side of your wellbeing, here is how to get started:

  1. Contact Your GP Surgery: Simply call your local practice and ask to speak with the Social Prescribing Link Worker. Most surgeries have them on-site or as part of their primary care network.

  2. Self-Referral: Many local hubs allow you to refer yourself directly.

  3. The First Chat: You’ll have a confidential, unhurried conversation to talk about your goals and what support would make the biggest difference to you.

  4. Remember: You don’t have to figure it all out alone. A Social Prescriber is there to walk beside you until you feel confident enough to take the next step yourself.

    Share the Love!

Know someone who’s feeling a bit stuck? let them know that help is available—and it’s just a conversation away.

Step Up has been a lifesaver for our family. Their support with clothing and essentials made a huge difference during tough times. Thank you for your kindness!
